If you try to install the framework mentioned above (and its older version - .NET 2.0, which is included automatically) - e.g. while installing VMware vCenter - you'll probably end up seeing an error saying that the source files cannot be found.
The easiest (GUI) way to overcome this problem is to click the "Specify an alternate source path" on the "Confirmation" tab during the installation procedure and then enter the following path:
[DVD-Drive Letter]\Sources\sxs
Alternatively, the following command (in the administrator command prompt) should also do the trick:
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /all /Source:d:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
