While using the vSphere Web Client (even with the Client Integration Plug-in and VMware Tools installed on the client), the left mouse button can't be used for anything except bringing the client out of the display standby.

What is intriguing is the fact that the right mouse button works just fine and when I click at the desktop to get the desktop menu, then I can use the left button as well.

Also, if I use the "Launch Remote Control" feature of the Web Client (which opens the guest windows by launching VMware Workstation), then it works just fine - i.e., the Workstation obviously doesn't have that problem.

Looks like some kind of a glitch...

Anyway, the solution I've found is changing the client resolution, probably to anything above 1280 x 960 (1280 x 960 works fine for me - I should probably mention that my host OS is set to 1920 x 1080).

However, you're probably still have to use a keyboard during the client installation and the installation of VMware Tools to the client (the "Tab" button will be your best friend there)...
