A new Kali (2022.2) has been released recently, which brought many interesting new features and improvements (please see the detailed description).

One of the recommended methods (besides bare metal installations) is to use the VMware or VirtualBox images provided (downloads available here).

 

However, upon starting up the VMware version of Kali (in Workstation 16.2.3 Pro), I couldn't miss the fact that the keyboard wasn't working (as I couldn't login).

 

The solution for this issue has proven to be quite simple:

  1. from the Virtual Machine Settings menu remove the USB Controller device;
  2. from the same menu, just add the same device again (the following settings work for me):
